Description

The Horse Head Nebula (IC434) - This is one of the most iconic nebulae imaged today by professional and amateur astronomers. This gorgeous cloud of dense dust blocks out all light from the stars behind it which is why these are called "dark nebulae". This nebula lies very, very near the first star in Orion's Belt, Alnitak. It is so bright in fact that I had to move my field of view over because I was essentially getting bombarded by "light pollution" coming from it! It still amazes me that I am able to capture this kind of detail from my backyard. Just incredible. Its one of the many reason I love what I do. So humbling.

I still have to gather color data on this target but right now it consists of 12 hours total exposure time. With the added RGB data it should equate to a total of 30 hours when its all said and done. Hope you all enjoy!

Equipment:

-At8rc, Atik 414ex, Cem60, Astrodon Luminance filter

-72x600-second exposures
